Let’s have a chat about HaveAChat.AI.
For more than 15 months, I’ve been openly developing HaveAChat.AI around a direction that has been there from the beginning: media, education, Australian manufacturing and sovereign AI. Like everything you build, the idea has evolved as I’ve worked through it, spoken about it publicly, tested different directions and started connecting the pieces. What we have today is much broader than where we started, but the purpose hasn’t changed. I want Australians involved in the conversation about the technology, industries, information and decisions that are going to shape our future.
That is where Driving About, Authenticated News, Authenticated Intelligence, AI4Women, Authenticated Data, Authenticated Nutrition, Authenticated Solar and the other ideas we’re developing all fit. Driving About brings education into everyday life by following the transition across electric vehicles, energy, AI, employment and industry. Authenticated News is about changing how information is sourced, verified and reported, bringing journalists, specialists and genuine human expertise into the process. Authenticated Intelligence is the Australian sovereign AI we are building around verified and authenticated information, transparency and human expertise, creating intelligence Australians can understand, question and trust. The other platforms and products will grow around that foundation as the broader HaveAChat.AI ecosystem develops over the next decade.
Australia has the knowledge, skills and experience to help shape the technology we’ll all rely on. Developing our own sovereign AI, teaching Australians how to use it and creating jobs here in both tech and manufacturing are all part of that. HaveAChat.AI is where I want to bring those conversations together. Let’s put the information on the table, look at different views fairly and talk honestly about where Australia should be heading.
That also means being prepared to question powerful organisations when something doesn’t add up, which is why one of the first major stories on HaveAChat.AI has unexpectedly become our own. As Driving About launched, X suspended the HaveAChat.AI account after its automated systems accused it of “inauthentic behaviours”. The account remains suspended. I challenged the suspension, asked X to identify exactly what HaveAChat.AI had supposedly done and requested a genuine human review. One of X’s responses said a violation had occurred “specifically:” and then failed to specify anything. I was also directed to complete on-screen instructions that did not exist. Despite repeated opportunities to explain its decision, X has still not provided the clear explanation I’ve asked for.
That experience has opened up exactly the kind of conversation HaveAChat.AI was built to have. The rapid growth of AI agents, automated decision making, social media, misinformation, freedom of speech, consumer protection, privacy and the influence of global technology companies is going to affect almost every Australian. Governments around the world are working out how these companies should be regulated and held accountable while the technology itself continues moving at extraordinary speed. Part of that conversation is how AI should be regulated and what safeguards Australians need to protect their privacy, safety and rights, including the ability to question and challenge automated decisions. We also need to ask how much influence US technology companies should have over political debate in Australia. Their platforms shape what Australians see and hear, which raises serious questions about their influence on public policy and elections at both state and federal levels. Those decisions should remain in Australian hands. HaveAChat.AI will follow that conversation here and internationally, report what actually happens and give Australians the information they need to decide where our country should go next.
The next step in our own X matter will be to raise the commercial issues surrounding the suspension with the ACCC, including what happened with the paid Premium service while the account remains suspended. Whatever happens from there will become part of the story, whether X maintains the suspension, reverses it or finally explains what happened. That is how I intend to build HaveAChat.AI over the years ahead: openly, factually and in public, while continuing to develop the media, education, manufacturing and sovereign AI platform I’ve been talking about from the beginning.
